Plant Curiosity: Horsetail, the oldest plant on Earth

Horsetail ( Equisetum arvense ) is one of the most ancient species on Earth and is an authentic concentrate of beneficial properties . The family to which it belongs, that of the Equisetaceae, appeared on the planet at the end of the Devonian (395 – 345 million years ago). Also called ” horsetail “, as its stem resembles the tail of the horse, it is widespread throughout Europe in humid and cool climates.

Easy to grow, it was used in the past by the Greeks, Romans and Chinese ; the ancient Ayurvedic medicine already evoked it at the time for the treatment of urinary tract disorders and still today it is used to solve urinary tract infections or bladder problems.
