One of my favorite wildflowers among the many I’ve taken over the years is definitely the enchanting Edelweiss. Known as Leontopodium alpinum is an alpine herbaceous plant. Mainly grows in rocky and harsh terrain at high altitudes. Flowers of the Edelweiss are unmistakable with their snow-white color and unique shape.
The Edelweiss plant is highly resistant and constantly exposed to temperature fluctuations and harsh weather conditions. It withstands the long winter frosts of the Alps. As well as the intense exposure to sunlight and ultraviolet rays at high altitudes.
Thanks to its robustness and the peculiar territory in which it grows. Edelweiss flower has strong defense and provides enormous benefits when used to create natural extracts. The Edelweiss is a rare wild flower and a symbol of the Alps. It is protected throughout the Alpine region and cannot be harvested in its natural habitat.
This flower used to be quite common until the 80s, although not easy to find, but it was possible to see it. However, for many years now, even though it is protected, it has become a true rarity in its wild natural state.
