A few weeks ago, I bought a new vintage lens Minolta 58mm MC Rokkor F1.4. That I haven’t had the chance to test yet. I often make such purchases at a local flea market near where I live.
As you may have noticed, I’m a MINOLTA lens enthusiast. This lens is one that I didn’t intend to purchase. Since the 58mm focal length was not among my top interests. However, it was indeed true that an F1.4 lens, i.e., a lens with a fast aperture, was too good to pass up, especially considering that the purchase price. While not the best, was still within my reach.
The lens is in good/excellent condition. Mechanically, it has no defects. The optics are clean, without any scratches or molds of any kind. Due to my recent focus on capturing nature photos. I haven’t had a chance to test it out yet. So little time I’ve, I want to dedicate to field photography. Considering the beautiful season and the chance to photograph flora and fauna in probably the best lighting conditions of the year.
The lens exudes a classic charm with its all-metal construction. Available in two distinct colors: Black and Silver. Unlike the typical black finish found in modern lenses, this lens stands out. The aperture ring features intermediate stops, allowing for precise adjustments and creative control. Its design pays homage to the vintage aesthetic, adding to its unique appeal.
The reviews and photographic images I had seen prior to the purchase prompted me to take the leap and buy this lens. Being an MC Rokkor, I believe it often signifies quality. Of course, this assessment will be followed by appropriate field testing as always. It is the actual practice with my particular copy that will allow for an honest evaluation. I hope, of course, that it will be a positive one!
To date, the purchases of MINOLTA lenses have not disappointed. I’m quite satisfied with the quality of the vintage lenses I have acquired so far. The lenses I have kept in my collection are very sharp and offer good to excellent definition, even at wide apertures.
In the coming weeks, I hope to have the time and opportunity to test this lens and provide an honest assessment. Supported by corresponding field photographs, as I do for all the lenses featured on the website. If you’re interested, stay connected to the site!
